Ex-aquafeed exec joins Viking Aqua board

Land-based salmon farm company Viking Aqua has named a former aquafeed executive to its board.

The Norway-based aquaculture announced yesterday that Einar Wathne, who was chief executive officer of one of the largest feed and nurtrition producer for aquaculture, EWOS Group, and one-time president of American global food producer Cargill Inc., was elected as board member of in December.

Wathne has more than 32 years of experience as a specialist and executive leader in the aquafeed industry.

He began his executive acreer in the industry as chief operations officer of EWOS in 2005. Wathne moved up the ladder in the company until becoming CEO in 2013.

Wathne became president of Cargill 2015 and worked with the company until 2019.

He is currently the chairman of the NCE Seafood Innovation Cluster, assistant professor at Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and member of the boards of various aquaculture industry organizations.

Viking Aqua is focused in the sustainable land-based farming of salmon.

The company building a land-based salmon farm in Skipavika, located on the west coast of Norway.

Viking Aqua recently signed an agreement with construction firm Overhalla Betongbygg  to develop the land-based smolt and food fishing facility in Skipavika, Gulen.

The first pipelines will be laid during 2022 . Fish will be introduced to the facility in 2023.

When the facility is completed, it will produce a total of 33,000 tonnes of salmon, according to Viking Aqua.
